The valve has a timer mechanism inside that diverts water from a jet every 5-10 minutes. This jet acts as a backup, pulling the cleaner off the bottom of the pool or wall and preventing possible clogging.

It is designed to be installed in-line on the leader hose. It has an arrow on one side of the hose barb that must be oriented toward the cleaner.
