Biofilm Out by Piscimar: Enzymatic Biofilm Remover

Biofilm Out

Biofilm Out is an enzymatic treatment specially developed to remove biofilm buildup in pool pipes, circulation systems, and filter media, including flint, glass, and cartridge filters.

Biofilm is a layer formed by bacteria and other microorganisms that can develop in hard-to-reach or hidden areas of the system. This protective layer prevents standard disinfectant treatments from effectively acting on the organic matter and microorganisms present.

How does Biofilm Out work?

The enzymes in Biofilm Out break down the coating—or biofilm—formed by the biofilm, allowing standard disinfectants to subsequently act on the organic matter and contaminating bacteria.

In this way, the treatment allows for action in areas of the facility that cannot be easily cleaned by hand, such as pipes and certain parts of the filtration system.

When should Biofilm Out be used?

Its use is especially recommended in the following situations:

  • During the startup of the pool after winterization.
  • As a complementary treatment during the restoration of a pool with green water.
  • After performing a treatment against pink bacteria.
  • When there is high chlorine consumption and it is difficult to maintain an adequate residual level in the water.
  • In cases of poor filtration, to help regenerate the filter media and extend its service life.
  • In cases of bacterial contamination by Pseudomonas aeruginosa, E. coli, or fecal coliforms.
  • As a booster for treatments performed with Phos-Out 3XL PM-675 or Algiblack+ PM-624.

Treatment for the pool’s non-visible areas

In addition to treating the water and visible surfaces, keeping the pipes and filtration system in good condition is essential for proper pool maintenance.

BIOFILM OUT specifically targets the biofilm accumulated in these areas, helping to improve the condition of the system and thereby enhancing the effectiveness of routine disinfectant treatments.

Directions for Use and Dosage

Dosage based on filter diameter:

  • Filter Ø 600–750 mm: 250 g.

  • Filter Ø 800–1300 mm: 500 g.

Product Preparation

  1. Fill a plastic container to approximately ¾ of its capacity, preferably with lukewarm water.

  2. Pour the entire contents of the single-dose packet into the water.

  3. Close the container and shake vigorously until a homogeneous mixture is obtained.

Application

Before applying the product, close the filter by setting the selector valve to the “Closed” position or by using the corresponding valves in the system.

The product can be applied in three ways:

A) Directly into the filter

Open the filter and add the prepared suspension. Gently stir the top layers of the filter media to help the product penetrate the filter bed properly.

B) Through the skimmer

Pour the suspension directly into the skimmer. Start the pump in filtration mode, keeping the drain closed and operating solely through the skimmer, until you observe turbidity beginning to emerge from the discharge nozzles.

C) In the pump’s prefilter basket

First, empty the water from the basket and add the suspension. Turn on the pump in filtration mode, with the drain closed and using only the skimmer, until you begin to see turbidity at the discharge nozzles.

Completion of Treatment

Allow the product to act for approximately 24 hours.

After this time, wash the filter followed by a rinse. To complete the treatment, perform chlorination with trichlor via the skimmer or the pump’s pre-filter basket to release the organic matter.

Important: BIOFILM OUT is sensitive to high concentrations of chlorine. Avoid contact between the product and over-chlorinated water.
